Pour double-chœur, solistes et orchestre en hommage à la disparition de Jean Gouzes, créateur et chef de chœur de l’Ensemble vocal de Montpellier, aux 50 ans de cet ensemble et aux 10 ans de direction de Franck Fontcouberte.

Cette œuvre regroupe l’Ensemble Vocal de Montpellier et la Chorale de Sète, soit une centaine de choristes, 30 musiciens professionnels et 4 solistes professionnels :

France Dariz (soprano),

Lise Eléonore Ravot (mezzo-soprano),

Patrick Garayt (ténor) et

Jiwon Song (baryton)

placés sous la direction musicale de Franck Fontcouberte.

Elle est donnée dans la version de Joachim Linckelmann pour orchestre de chambre.

La Messa da Requiem de Giuseppe Verdi a été créée le 22 mai 1874 en l’église San Marco de Milan, Italie. On fête cette année ses 150 ans ! D’une durée d’une heure trente minutes, elle est l’une des œuvres les plus populaires du répertoire sacré. Par sa dimension lyrique, elle touche un large public.

Artistic Life

French dramatic soprano, France Dariz, accomplished her lyrical specialization in the Marseille Opera-Studio, during the 2007-2008 season, thanks to the intervention of renowned artists such as Yvonne Minton, Tom Krause, Michel Plasson and Rolando Villazon.

Soon after, she was hired by Birgitt Fassbaender and made her international debut as Madame Lidoine in Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites at the Tyrolean State Theater in Innsbruck. Further on, France Dariz sang at the Radio-France Festival and in the Mozarteum University during the Salzburg Festival.

In 2012, she made her role debut as Aida (G. Verdi) during a national tour with the Pisa Theater. Later on, she is invited to sing the same role at the Teatro Filarmonico of Verona after winning the « Aida Competition» organized by the Arena Foundation.

The following year, she participated in the Opera On Ice Show at the Verona Arena singing highlights from Puccini’s Madame Butterfly. Afterwards, she made her role debut as Norma (V. Bellini) during a national tour in France and as Amelia (Un Ballo in Maschera, G. Verdi) at the Teatro Cagnoni in Vigevano (Italia).

In 2014, she reassumed Norma in a new national tour in France.

In 2017, France Dariz made her role debut as Turandot (G. Puccini) at the Macerata Sferisterio Opera Festival under the conducting of Pier Giorgio Morandi. Then, she sang Aida (G. Verdi) in the Opera Houses of Rimini, Pesaro and Cento (Italia).

In 2018, she made her role debut as Lady Macbeth (Macbeth, G. Verdi), alongside Leo Nucci, under Paolo Arrivabeni’s conduction at the Royal Opera of Wallonia. The same year, she sang Puccini’s Turandot at the Palazzo Farnese Opera Festival in Piacenza. She also sang Turandot

in 2019, at the Elba Opera Festival and in concert during the Verdi Festival.

At the beginning of 2020, she made her debut at the Teatro Regio di Parma with the lead role of Turandot under the direction of Valerio Galli and the conduction of Giuseppe Frigeni.

In summer and fall 2021, France Dariz sang highlights of Wagner’s Die Walküre and Verdi’s Aida at the Opera Houses of Avignon, Massy, Marseille and Nice for the Calms Association Tour. In December, she made her debut in Verdi’s Requiem Mass with the Académie de Musique du Palais Royal in the Church of La Madeleine in Paris.

The year

2022 began with a Wagnerian concert including excerpts from Die Walküre (as Brünnhilde and Sieglinde), Parsifal (as Kundry), Tristan und Isolde (Isolde’s final aria Liebestod) and Wesendonck-Lieder (Träume) for the Cercle Wagner Nice Côte d’Azur.

In the fall, she participated in several concerts as part of the Verdi Festival in Parma. Then, in November, she made her role debut as Tosca (G. Puccini) at the Massimo Bellini Opera House in Catania (Sicilia).

In February and March 2023, France Dariz sang once again the lead role of Puccini’s Turandot in an international tour in both Spain and France (15 shows).

In June, she made her role debut as Abigaille in Verdi’s Nabucco at the Novara Opera House.

In 2024, she will reassume Puccini’s Turandot in a co-production (initially planned for 2020) between the Pavarotti-Freni Opera House in Modena, the Municipal Theater of Piacenza, the Teatro Manifestazioni in Ravenna and the Teatro Amintore Galli in Rimini.

France Dariz makes her debut in 2025 with performances at the Opéra de Montpellier, in Sète, and at the Abbaye de Valmagne, singing the Soprano Solo in Verdi's Requiem, conducted by Franck Fontcouberte.

Certainly, the figure of Aida, admirably interpreted by the soprano France Dariz, stood out among the other performers. Dariz embodied the role perfectly, alternating between a deep and passionate vocal delivery, with powerful lows and formidable highs.

Turandot seemed to pay off with bad luck after the unfortunate fall (in the steep streets of Macerata) of Swedish soprano Iréne Theorin who was due to play the title role (in which we heard her at the Peralada festival last summer ). It is therefore his understudy who took over ... and what a change ... all the more gratifying that France Dariz - to whom ultimately falls the role - is French! Another great French voice which does not find its place in its native country (we had simply never heard of it ...), and which makes a career out of interpreting the great Verdian roles (Abigaille, Lady Macbeth, Aïda) - but also Wagnerians (Isolde, Sieglinde, Senta)! - abroad. In fact, the young and more than promising French soprano (Catherine Hunold therefore had a hidden “rival”!) Confronts this extraordinary character with the pride and arrogance of the great Wagnerian sopranos. His song ventures to the most extreme borders, without ever losing anything in terms of flexibility, sensitivity or suppleness, and it is entirely legitimate that the public makes him a triumph at the time of the salutes. Last reason for pride, France Dariz will ultimately ensure all the performances, so ... Cocorico!

TURANDOT ON A BEAR, IN MACERATA

France Dariz, replaced from the second performance Iréne Theorin who was injured by falling (not from the top of the bear on which Turandot is sitting). Imperious, her fluid and supple voice succeeds in breaking through the shackles of the staging. A perfect role-taking.
