She left us with a memorable Turandot, with a powerful voice at the core and incredible authority in her terrifying ascents into the high range, where she maintained the beautiful color of her voice.
It was an astonishing discovery and a truly great Turandot.

Certainly, the figure of Aida, admirably interpreted by the soprano France Dariz, stood out among the other performers. Dariz embodied the role perfectly, alternating between a deep and passionate vocal delivery, with powerful lows and formidable highs.

Turandot seemed to pay off with bad luck after the unfortunate fall (in the steep streets of Macerata) of Swedish soprano Iréne Theorin who was due to play the title role (in which we heard her at the Peralada festival last summer ). It is therefore his understudy who took over ... and what a change ... all the more gratifying that France Dariz - to whom ultimately falls the role - is French! Another great French voice which does not find its place in its native country (we had simply never heard of it ...), and which makes a career out of interpreting the great Verdian roles (Abigaille, Lady Macbeth, Aïda) - but also Wagnerians (Isolde, Sieglinde, Senta)! - abroad. In fact, the young and more than promising French soprano (Catherine Hunold therefore had a hidden “rival”!) Confronts this extraordinary character with the pride and arrogance of the great Wagnerian sopranos. His song ventures to the most extreme borders, without ever losing anything in terms of flexibility, sensitivity or suppleness, and it is entirely legitimate that the public makes him a triumph at the time of the salutes. Last reason for pride, France Dariz will ultimately ensure all the performances, so ... Cocorico!

France Dariz, replaced from the second performance Iréne Theorin who was injured by falling (not from the top of the bear on which Turandot is sitting). Imperious, her fluid and supple voice succeeds in breaking through the shackles of the staging. A perfect role-taking.
